ASI suspended for shielding accused

NOORPUR BEDI (Ropar): A police official had to face the whip of his superiors for shielded an accused, who allegedly sodomized a minor. The ASI, who was serving as in charge of police post Haripur, has been put under suspension as the latter didn’t register a case against the accused despite repeated attempts made by the victim’s parents.
The accused has been nabbed.The crime was committed on March 19 when the victimized boy, a native of district Kupwara in J&K staying in the area with his parents, went to have langar at a gurdwara at Jatwahar village along with his parents.
While returning the boy was lured by the accused, Rakesh Kumar, aresident of Jatwahar, to accompany him on the pretext that packed meals would be provided for his family to carry home. The accused took the victim to an adjoining isolated area and left him in an unconscious state presuming the latter to be dead. The victim was recovered by his parents in an unconscious state late night.
Thought the victim’s father, Mehardeen Khan, who is working in the area as a labourer, apart from going to Haripur police post time and again to a get complaint registered, contacted senior district cops, he was not heard. Eventually, the distraught parents met DIG MF Farooqui due to whose intervention the case under sections 377 and 323 of IPC was registered.
